Please tell me why all of your phones are on their "last legs"? Do you all have dropsy or something?
I am still using my original iPhone (pre 3G), and it works just as well as it ever did. Still has the same flaws too.
But regardless, unless I drop it in the parking lot or something, I have no reason to believe that it won't still be going a year from now.
If you are spending your money on bigger/better/faster/stronger/new features, I understand that fully.
I don't understand why large quantities of people are commenting on why their phone is about to die?
So those of us that are still using 3gS's (that are on their last leg) should prolly go ahead and get a 4, and then wait for the 6...

I'm more just curious if there has been evidence that the typical response of "we only store them for a few days while we ensure delivery" is not always true. In a lot of crime investigations, it looks like the police look at the text messages stored on the phone itself.
At least in this case, they got the data from the operator as they clearly said it. IIRC they got about a month worth of texts because they said there was something like 500 SMSs between the suspect and the victim. And yes, in this case the actual content of the SMS was stored as well, not just the date and number.
Again, this is Finland, not US, but I would still say they store them for more than a few days.

AppleInsider Article: "The filing is credited to four Apple employees: Nick King, Duncan Kerr, Paul Herbst and Steven Hotelling."
Is this the type of thing Apple does? Thought they had more control over employee/press relations...
The whole article sounds a bit overloaded with info - is it April Fools?http://forums.macrumors.com/images/smilies/redface.gif

So today, for no reason, my iphone (3gs) started having the following problems:
1) Coming randomly out of standby (like I hit the home button).
2) No function at all from home button.
3) Phone displays "Charging is not supported with this accessory" and related messages and problems even when nothing is plugged in.
4) Sound out of speakers is about 10% of normal volume, even when at max.
5) Phone will randomly enter "voice command"
Some of these problems come and go, and there's other miscellaneous issues, but these are the most prominent ones.
My phone is out of warranty, so I can't get it fixed with apple. I suspect it might have something to do with the charging end, I took some dust out of there but it didn't change anything.

I'm getting conflicting information in this thread. I'm currently on 4.3 on my iPad, never upgraded to 4.3.1 like a lot of people here. I saved my 4.3 SHSH a long time ago.
Some users claim that 4.3.1 is not necessary to save SHSH for it, but others are telling users to hurry up and save their 4.3.1 SHSH before it's too late.
When I use TinyUmbrella, it seems to show only one version saved, 4.3. If it's not necessary to have 4.3.1 to save 4.3.1 SHSH, then how do I do it?
I am only worried that the Jailbreak is only going to work on 4.3.1 for iPad 2. I'm perfectly happy with 4.3.
EDIT!: Looks like I just needed to grab the latest update of TinyUmbrella (which probably supports 4.3.1, whereas the previous version did not.) Download it here: http://thefirmwareumbrella.blogspot.com/

It doesn't even really look that great. You have to purchase an entire kit (hd, kb, mouse, DVD,...) just to run linux on there :(
A good point. By the time PS3 is out, it might even be cheaper (at least not much more expensive) to just buy a G5 mini ;) and set it to Fold 24/7. Just hate to think of that h/w sitting in my closet doing nothing...

I went to the 3G launch at cpw at teesside park. Queue was about 20/30 people at 7am. It opened at 8. If you know it it went from cpw down to brantano. Sold out of 16gbs about half way through the queue.
I think the town centres will be less popular and should be a better bet if you really want a particular model. Plus there's more shops - I think mbro still has two o2's and a cpw?
I hope it's easier this time as I don't fancy another early start. Hopefully other carriers will have it on thursday too to dilute the queues
Yeah, I know where you meen, I'll prob stick to one of the centres, live in yarm so they are all 10-15min drive away.
Should help that o2 are only offering them to existing customers though.

Another great quarter.
Regarding the cash on hand situation, which now sits at around $65 Billion... I remember Steve was quoted somewhere as saying (and this was a long time ago, maybe a decade or so) that he always wants enough cash on hand to run a company in the red for <blank> years before going bankrupt. I say <blank> because I can't remember the figure he used.. This may tie into why there is so much cash in reserve beyond the normal amount a company should have for acquisitions, emergencies, etc etc... Apple makes a lot of cash, but also spends a lot just to run the company.
Also.... I'll just leave this here:

I looked at the requirements you posted. Nvida 3D will not work in OS X and Windows XP.
Last I read at Netkas those cards are just barely working in some cases.
I think the only way you are getting 3D output to your 3D TV is to add one of the supported cards and upgrade to Vista or Windows 7, per the requirements listed on the website. Keep the existing video card for OS X output and use the new video card for Windows output.
You will either need a switch box or connect both video cards to both displays (assuming they both have multiple inputs).

Stop trying to fight DRM, ignore it or don't buy the crap in the first place
Whether you agree with me or not, that's the way the legal world sees it. Reverse engineering is quite common.

Aah yes. First year computer courses. I wish I was back there.
This year, my next assignment is to write what will pretty much be a complete game engine in less than a week. :(
Anyway, you just need to follow the directions on the assignment page.
Have 3 functions that return the appropriate values and setup the keyboard input with a switch case. Then call and print appropriate function/value.

So, I'm trying to connect my DirecTV reciever to an Airport Base Station that I want to extend my wireless network, which is configured using a Siemens Gigaset router for our Frontier internet.
In Airport Utility, I've got "extend a wireless network" selected, but when I try to select my specific wireless network, it says "the network you've selected cannot be extended".
So I guess my question is this: is there a way to make my Gigaset router wireless network extendable, or will I only be able to use my Airport base to extend other Apple wireless routers?
I am almost positive you cannot extend via airport extreme any other non apple device. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.
I would, if I were you, turn off the wifi module of the Siemens; connect it to the airport extreme Ethernet and broadcast from there.
Keep in mind, for direct tv, I am almost certain as well you need a Ethernet cable direct into a router from the dtv white homeshare box to broadcast the the other homesharing dtv devices.

Wow, I got Firefox to open after downloading older version of Firefox again. Can't believe it. I am not relieved and happy. Thanks Mactouros for your advice too!
I already had Firefox 3.6.17 running on here but after i downloaded it again, it says this -
Youre now running Firefox 3.6.17.
For security reasons, we recommend downloading the latest and greatest version.

This sounds more like jail time to me. How is this different from me hacking in to someone's computer and then telling the world to come on in and take what you want.

They got their value out of Connectix in Virtual Server. Like it or not the Mac stuff was just the tip of the iceberg.
Also, Microsoft made its money not through Virtual PC, but through the Windows license that you had to buy with it. If you buy Parallels, or use Bootcamp, Microsoft loses a few dollars from the Virtual PC sale, but they still get a big chunk of money for the Windows license. I would say 75% of their revenue and 100% of their profit stay intact.

Tried both? You've only posted one attempted solution. Please don't expect us to guess what the other one was. If you haven't already, I'd suggest reading through What Have You Tried (http://whathaveyoutried.com) and especially the kinder, gentler Getting Answers (http://www.mikeash.com/getting_answers.html).

You won't be able to find a display with resolution of 2560x1600, which is the maximum res of Mini, for 350$. Those go for around 1000$ at least. The best you can get is 1920x1080, or 1920x1200 if you're lucky.
