I was in high school at the time. Some friends and I were sitting around a table, waiting for school to start, and another kid walked up and said "tell me you know what the %&@ is going on" and then proceeded to explain what had happened.

The Boot Camp drivers provided by Apple aren't that great, especially for the trackpad and the brightness controls. When I'm dragging and dropping files in Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro, I tend to press down with one finger and drag with another finger.
I have my trackpad set up on Windows 7 and OS X to have it so that the bottom left corner is left click and the bottom right is right click. Tap to click is disabled.
So, basically, I cannot have "tap-to-click" and have "press down with one finger and drag with another finger" at the same time.
That sucks.

Giving my '08 Mac Pro a new lease of life with a SSD. 3'5 (so I won't have to worry about sleds etc.) I'm going for a clean install, but is there any special considerations regarding formatting I should be aware of?
This is the drive;
OCZ Vertex 2E Bigfoot 120GB 3.5" SATA-II
Should I install in windows first to update firmware?
EDII read this post which has got me thinking it going to be difficult
http://joshuablount.com/posts/2011/clean-installing-snow-leopard-on-your-ssd-considered-harmful/
I installed directly from the disc onto an OCZ Vertex 2 3.5" 120GB. However, I did not use the retail Snow Leopard disc, I used the 2010 Mac Pro disc that came with the computer. It might have newer drivers than the retail disc. Heck, newer retail discs might have newer drivers than older retail discs.
I don't update the firmware. I don't like to mess with things that work to my satisfaction.
However, as I recall to update OCZ firmware, you need to have Windows to do firmware updates and you cannot update an SSD that you booted from, so there are certainly some challenges to overcome.

Is there a reason why he would not have a DropBox account? I mean, DropBox is great and very useful, why couldn't he be using it?
He could, but what that would say about his belief iDisk/MobileMe..... would be interesting.

Lowering prices when you already can not manufacturer enough units is just foolish. Apple is strategically gathering cash so they can make more investments and make new products.
True...and Apple can do as they wish. But sooner or later their high priced Mac line will have to drop a bit in price if they wish to attract the "I ain't paying more than $900 for a bleeping computer" crowd. :) iPads may attract some of these people but for those of us who want a true computer that includes printing, USB ports, lots of storage, network sharing, VPN access, ability to create/author cds/dvds or code, a true keyboard, etc. the iPad will just never work.
I am waiting to see what the next iMac lineup will be...I own a 2007 Mini and it's great (but used literally 48 hours a year) but would be a nice treat to get a Mac that is much newer and more powerful. The Minis just aren't worth it anymore especially after Apple RAISED the price $100 the last time around. The $1199 iMac is all we need.

Microsoft has responded, as usual a vicious and inaccurate rumour has been swirled out of hand by the Apple "community":
There's been a TON of traffic about the Bloomberg article that posted today - plus I noticed they updated the article a few hours ago:
We have nothing to announce about another Zune device -- but most recently have introduced Zune HD to Canada via the Zune Originals store and remain committed to supporting our devices in North America, the company said in an e-mailed statement. We are thrilled by the consumer excitement for Zune across many new platforms, including Windows Phone 7 and Xbox 360. Our long-term strategy focuses on the strength of the entire Zune ecosystem across Microsoft platforms.
I've had tweets, emails, PMs and phone calls. People offering condolences, checking in on me, etc... etc... Stop, stop, stop!
The Bloomberg article is NOT an official statement from Microsoft (apart from the quote above). The headline is purportedly from a "person familiar with the matter" - which of course tells you nothing.
Here's what you should know - ALL consumer electronics products have a lifespan, and the Zune HD is 18mo old. We were completely frank about this year's Zune hardware being the WP7 phones, and we continue to both sell and fully support the Zune HD line of products. And as I've promised - we continue to bring new apps and games to the platform. More of those are in the works, I promise you.
I manage business development for Zune hardware, and I still have that job. Our PR folks released a statement today that included the text: "Well share more information about the evolution of the Zune entertainment service and Zune hardware as future plans develop."
To be 100% clear - NO information about our future plans, no matter what the incarnation, has been shared. Until then treat with healthy skepticism anything you read. That's probably a good general rule actually.
So for those who tweeted or emailed asking what I'm "going to do now" - I'll be going to work tomorrow, working on Zune hardware bizdev. And when Microsoft announces news that is actually news, you'll hear it from us directly, and I'll be sure to pass it on immediately. Only then should you take it as gospel.
Cheers, Dave.

As an 11.6 user it is easy to see why. I have had so many other laptops, including MacBooks and MacBook pros, and the air is my favorite due to build, portability, and performance with the ssd.

I have a PB Ti G4 (Model: M8592LL/A) with the original Airport card. I cant get this to connect to WPA networks. WEP wireless works fine.
When I have a network set as WPA the PowerBook sees the network and when I attempt to join it recognizes it as a "WPA Personal" network, however I cannot join the network at all.
Is there anything I can do for this? Do I have to buy an Airport Extreme card??

Many TVs won't display sound unless there is something connected to the associated video input as well. If you're using the red/white RCA jacks, there's most likely a yellow RCA jack or an S-Video jack "clustered" with them. Stick a cable into those, then select the correct source input on the TV (definitely not HDMI, as that transfers it's own sound -- look for "COMPONENT", "AUX", or just "INPUT", usually.

I'm impatiently waiting, only difference is I'm not expressing my impatience out loud. A lot of people should try that.
We're in the same boat. Whining about it won't make it go faster, it'll just annoy everyone.

Hi,
Ok, i know this site is by it's nature about gadgets, but for me it's all about the carrier.
I've had 8 different carriers in the last 10 years. Many of them have merged/
changed names/gone out of business.
When i see people complaining about their carrier, it's always about coverage
dropouts. Folks, ALL carriers will have SOME dropouts, especially if you live
in a challenging physical terrain.
What i found more aggravating is how obtuse and unresponsive these companies are. This is an area of modern commerce that is barely regulated.
Politicians have been lobbied to allow a wild west mentality for an industry
that has insinuated itself into most of our lives in just a short time.
I've had carriers routinely sneak in extra charges. Representatives have no
compunction about lying. I don't know about you, but i don't have time to
audit my bill every month with a magnifying glass.
Each carrier was worse than the last. The most annoying thing? Being
put on hold for 40 minutes, than disconnected. This is intentional. They don't want to be accessible.
Finally the last time i switched i did a search to see which companies had the least complaints. Although the billing practices overall in the industry
are atrocious, i've had the best experience overall with my current carrier.
This trumps any pleasure i would get from having a phone that integrates
well with my macs.

There is no need to use a "Standard" account (what you call "user"), running the Mac as an admin is just fine. Many do this and experience no problems. I have run Mac OS X for seven years via admin accounts and have had not any problems with that.
If something needs access to system critical files or folders, it will ask for your admin password anyway.

Where can I find firmware 4.3?
I found the website felixbruns which has all the firmwares, but which one do I pick?
iPad 2,1
iPad 2,2
iPad 2,3
I have a 16GB AT&T.
Thanks!
Look at the SHSH you have, it will tell you for what firmware they are. If you have SHSH for something else, they won't work on your iPad.
If you SHSHs are for ipad 2.2 them that is the firmware you need..and so on
